OUR STORY

P&M Apparel is a woman-owned, third-generation family business specializing in custom apparel and promo products, located in Polk City, Iowa.

Our roots are literally Mom and Pop Shop; we started in the basement of Phyllis and Melvin (the P&M) as a new career after farming and remodeling homes most of their lives.

Their daughter Kay took over the business a few years after it moved to Polk City and two of her children, Megan and Ryan, joined the ranks as business grew.

Since 1987, we have been providing unparalleled service to small businesses, groups, organizations and team throughout Central Iowa, the state, the country, and lately, the world.

Our story is driving your story. We know anyone can go online and whip up a generic cheap t-shirt. Our ideal client values integrity-led customer service, attention to detail, a full service art department, and high quality products.

We know when you look good, we look good, when you succeed and grow, we succeed and grow. So we handle the littlest client with as much care and support as the biggest client, knowing sometimes the little guy becomes the big guy with our help.

Repeat customers make up nearly 90% of our business because we care about face-to-face interactions and building relationships with great customers while doing what we love.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your business hours?
Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. We are closed on the weekends and most major holidays.

This shirt doesn’t fit. Can I return it?
If it is from our retail section, yes. For all custom orders, unfortunately, no. All of our products are custom made-to-order pieces and as such we aren’t able to take returns. We try to combat the need for returns by including garment information and spec sheets for all the products. If your product is somehow defective or printed incorrectly, we will make sure to replace that product for you.

I forgot to order from an online store and now it is closed. Can I put in a late order?
All of our online stores have a very specific open and close date to ensure that production flows smoothly. Late orders cause a disruption in the production schedule, causing our staff to overwork and rework the plan to fit in your late order. Because of all the extra work that entails, we are not able to accommodate late orders.
What is your minimum order size?
Our minimum order is one; we can’t do anything less than that (That was a favorite joke of Melvin, the M in P&M). Please be aware there are associated fees for most orders under 12 pieces, but those will be communicated to you in advance of production.
I have a jpeg of my logo. Can you print it on a shirt?
The best file type for production is a Vector File. These are usually .eps, .ai, or sometimes .pdf. High resolution jpegs and pngs may work on a case by case basis. Our art team will take a look at it and try our best.
My shirt is on backorder. When can I expect it?
Due to current stock issues and supply chain disruptions, our distributors don’t have a super good idea of when items will be back in stock. On most items, we should be able to substitute something similar if you don’t want to wait.
What is your turnaround?
Our normal turn around is 10-12 business days. This time begins after art and quote approval. We offer rush service at a premium based on how quickly you need items in hand.
I want to print a shirt. How much is it?
There are several factors that go into pricing a shirt; quality of blank garment, number of print locations, number of print colors, total quantity of shirts. Without knowing that information we are not able to provide pricing. We do provide free quotes on all projects and there are never any hidden fees.
Can you do my art?
We have two full time graphic designers on staff who would love to turn your dreams into reality. Our art is billed at $100/hr, with the first half hour being complimentary when accompanied with t shirts or other goods. About 80% of our art falls into that first half hour.
Can you get _______ product?
Probably? We have a lot of vendors who carry a lot of items. We’d be more than happy to check on specific products for you! We like to say, “we can do that” because we will research and try our best to find the products you need to tell your story.
Why won’t you print my design?
There are a few reasons we reject a design. We don’t infringe on copyrights or intellectual property. We don’t print offensive or hateful images, or designs with foul language. We can’t print extremely low resolution images.
Can I bring my own items in to be decorated?
Of course! We’re one of the only shops in the area to accept customer supplied goods. Pricing looks a little different and we have you sign a waiver in the case that something goes wrong. We cannot replace damaged or misprinted goods that are customer provided. But we love printing on garments sourced from everywhere!
Do you have any shirts on hand?
While we do have very limited stock here in house, we typically don't rely on that for our orders. Most of our distributors have next day delivery in the case that a rush order does come through. If you're looking for a quick turn around, plan for at least 24 hours.
